Where optical networking interoperability work gets done
Dynamic ecosystem of 160+ industry-leading network operators and system, component and test equipment vendors
OIF is where the optical networking industry’s interoperability work gets done. Celebrating more than 25 years of effecting forward change in the industry, OIF represents the dynamic ecosystem of 160+ industry leading network operators, system vendors, component vendors and test equipment vendors collaborating to develop interoperable electrical, optical and control solutions that directly impact the industry’s ecosystem and facilitate global connectivity in the open network world.

In scope for the 800G Coherent project is to define interoperable 800G coherent line specifications for campus and DCI applications.
AI in data centers is rapidly evolving towards ever larger deep learning models with trillions of parameters. Therefore, next generation AI systems must evolve to utilize dense electrical and optical interfaces. Without interfaces offering greater energy efficiency and lower latency, these high-performance next generation systems become impractical to build. The OIF’s Energy Efficient Interfaces track is addressing these challenges.
OIF recently published 112Gbps specifications for die to die, chip to chip, chip to module, medium reach chip to chip and long reach chip to chip also known as backplane.
The management track in the PLL is currently working on CMIS 5.3, CPO/ELSFP, Link training, Form Factor Specific Hardware descriptions as well as forward looking discussions of how to manage modules more efficiently.
