OIF is where the optical networking industry’s interoperability work gets done. Celebrating 25 years of effecting forward change in the industry, OIF represents the dynamic ecosystem of 150+ industry leading network operators, system vendors, component vendors and test equipment vendors collaborating to develop interoperable electrical, optical and control solutions that directly impact the industry’s ecosystem and facilitate global connectivity in the open network world.
In scope for the 800G Coherent project is to define interoperable 800G coherent line specifications for campus and DCI applications. 
OIF members recently announced the 3.2T Co-Packaged Optical Module Implementation Agreement (IA) – the first project initiated under the umbrella of the Co-packaged Framework Project. The IA will define a 3.2T co-packaged optical module that targets Ethernet switching applications utilizing 100G electrical lanes. 
Common Electrical I/O projects include 112G-XSR, 112G-Very Short Reach, 112G in MCM, 112G-LR, 112G-MR. 
During OIF’s Q3 meeting in May 2020, members formally approved a proposed project start to address next generation architectures and data rates around 224 Gbps for CEI interfaces. 
The recently created management track in the PLL has published CMIS 5.2 which is the first version of CMIS that was developed in the OIF. Work has started on the next version of CMIS, which will continue the work on CPO/ELSFP and Link training while addressing maintenance comments received in the past year.
